Alternative Photography Workshops with Ian Phillips-McLaren
Discover the beauty of photography before pixels. Artist and educator Ian Phillips-McLaren offers hands-on workshops in historic processes including gum bichromate, cyanotype, and salt printing.
With over 35 years’ experience as a fine-art photographer, and currently teaching at London Metropolitan University and Cambridge School of Art, Ian’s workshops balance traditional craft with contemporary, creative experimentation. Each session is designed to be practical, inspiring, and accessible — perfect for beginners, students, and practicing artists alike.
Processes available:
Gum Bichromate Printing – painterly, layered prints with depth and texture
Cyanotype Printing – the celebrated Prussian blue process with creative toning
Salt Printing – one of photography’s earliest silver-based techniques
